What's Up In My World - daily musings without benefit of a Muse

Truck broke down last week, motorcycle broke down last week, truck now fixed, motorcycle still broken.

Still wondering why RSW systematically looted my possessions; what makes one person convinced of entitlement to the property of another?

Daughter's van might need extensive and expensive transmission repair - ugh!

Still don't like Cherry Tree Hill Merino Boucle, although I've begun two projects, the Shrugawl and the hat-and-scarf set. The Alpine Baby grew on me, but the boucle - ugh! The projects aren't going fast enough, even on size 9 and size 11 US needles. Loopy, yes, boucle, no.

Microsoft WORD class is going well, if slowly; I'm glad I started with Lesson One. It's completely different from WordPerfect!

Southern California is on fire all around the basin as a result of low humidity and the devilish Santa Ana winds combined with arsonists and downed power lines. The entire basin, all the way to the coast, is saturated with ash.

"Jericho" Season Two remains a mystery, although "Viva Laughlin" seemed more laughable than watchable. "Kid Nation" hasn't bombed as seriously as I thought it would (of course, I am not a fan of "Lord of the Flies").

Watched many DVR'd shows this weekend and finally patched the Ralph Lauren comforter handed down to me from J0hn Zinner. Might have been more time-and-cost-effective to just buy a new comforter, but this one's stuffing is still in great shape, and I'll never buy one, no matter how nice the designer bedding might be. So now the outer shell is patched up, but I cheated and used the iron-on stuff to "baste" the patches in place.

I'm afraid I'm losing mobility in my arms and fingers, especially on the right; the shoulder hurts all time time - different from last year's frozen shoulder - then there's the sciatic pain which strikes without rhyme or reason.

that's all for now, folks...

Jerichon 2007 - Finito

After 9:02 p.m., some of us drifted back to Bailey's, which featured a live band (local talent), for the evening. Wasn't able to get the lead singer's attention - to request some road songs for those of our contingent who had to drive to get to Oakley. Next time!

Some of our group stayed up until the wee hours, enjoying the Kansas night which included an impromptu thundershower (I was blissfully asleep by then).

Despite getting to sleep comparatively early, I missed most of the Sunday morning non-denominational worship - but not the lovely breakfast at the local VFW! Thanks to Gayle and her parents for the ride to the VFW from Jericho Field.

After breakfast, most of us returned for the closing ceremonies at Jericho Field. Lots of hugs and moist eyes, with vows to see each other at Jerichon 2008!

The final event of the weekend was a totally spontaneous "Last Man Standing" dinner at the Colonial Steakhouse (documented by Jericho247 at guardiansofjericho.org) where those of us still in Oakley gathered and shared one last meal and stories from the road. Between SpookUSN, RailroadBrat, Sarork and the others at the my end of the table, I almost asphixiated from laughter. A wonderful way to commemorate the weekend and relax before heading to our far-flung homes.

Jamie R. Bell, munificent Director of Economic Development for Logan County, provided Nightbird47 and I with transportation back to the Garden City train station (no police escort required), where we bid him and Kansas a fond farewell and our best regards for his family and community.

Looking forward to Jerichon 2008!
